Ryan Edwin Moore, 40, of Lowell, and Nichole Lynn Teller, 36, of Lowell, are facing multiple drug charges after a June 10 traffic stop in St. John allegedly led to the discovery of heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

According to court documents, St. John Police stopped a vehicle on Calumet Avenue after observing a passenger who appeared not to be wearing a seatbelt and the vehicle following too closely behind another vehicle.

Police reported Moore appeared nervous during the stop, with trembling hands, difficulty sitting still and repeatedly scratching his hands. Investigators also observed both occupants making movements toward the center console while a records check was being conducted.

Court documents state Teller admitted there was a THC vape and marijuana inside the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly recovered a THC vape, marijuana, a glass pipe and a straw containing a white powdery residue.

Investigators allege Teller voluntarily produced a bag containing multiple smaller baggies of a gray powdery substance and told officers Moore had given it to her and instructed her to hide it. After being advised of her rights, Teller allegedly told police Moore handed her the drugs during the traffic stop and told her to “put it inside” of herself. She stated she initially refused but ultimately complied.

Moore denied ownership of the drugs, according to court records. Investigators reported that during a discussion between the two, Moore made statements indicating both he and Teller struggled with drug addiction and referred to the narcotics as something “we” possessed.

Police said the gray powdery substance and residue recovered from the straw field-tested positive for heroin and weighed approximately 5.1 grams. Marijuana weighing approximately one gram and residue recovered from the glass pipe also tested positive for marijuana.

Court records indicate Moore was convicted of dealing cocaine in Lake County in 2010.
