Burglar Nabbed By Griffith Police In Calumet High School

Around 7:30 AM, Saturday, dispatch received a call saying someone was inside Calumet High School and they could see someone on the camera. The caller also advised dispatch they had not seen the male exit, according to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.

Griffith Police Officers arrived on scene first due to Lake County Officers assisting Indiana State Police in a pursuit of a possible OWI driver that fled from a traffic stop.

Griffith officers immediately noticed that door F at Calumet High was pried open. While officers were clearing the school for suspects, they observed a male inside who immediately ran from them throughout the building. A Griffith Officer gave chase and was able too utilize a taser at door A. The male was taken into custody by Griffith.

The offender was identified as Benjamen A. Llamas, 28 years old, believed to be from Valparaiso, Indiana. Llamas had two active warrants for Failure To Appear on a felony theft charge and a warrant for operating without a license. Charges are now also pending approval for Burglary & Shoplifting as well.
