Calumet City Vehicle Hi-Jacking & Chase Ends With Two Arrested

On January 22, 2020 at approximately 3:52 P.M, The Calumet City Police responded to the 1200 block of Torrence Ave for a report of an aggravated vehicular hi-jacking that had just occurred, according to Chief Christopher Fletcher of The Calumet City Police. As officers were responding they were advised that the vehicle taken was a burgundy Volkswagen Passat. Responding officers saw a vehicle matching that description traveling westbound on Sibley Blvd at Muskegon Ave. As officers were drawing near the Volkswagen it began to speed up and turn north onto Torrence Ave. Officers followed the vehicle until confirming if was the vehicle stolen, Fletcher said. Officers then attempted to perform a traffic stop this vehicle but the vehicle refused to stop and officers engaged in a vehicle pursuit which entered onto I-94 ultimately ending in the area of 99th and Emerald Ave. in Chicago. Two suspects fled on foot from the vehicle and with the assistance of Chicago Police they were quickly apprehended. A weapon was recovered from the scene as well, Fletcher stated. Both suspects were transported to the Calumet City Police Department where the investigation is ongoing currently.
