Crash Snarls Traffic On 80/94

A white sedan lost control on 80/94 around 3pm Thursday with a vehicle coming to a stop underneath a semi trailer. The accident occurred at the 3 mile marker on Eastbound 80/94 between Indianapolis Blvd & Kennedy Ave. Hammond Fire Department was called for an accident with injuries and extrication of passengers in the white sedan. Two out of three people in the sedan were transported to Christ Oak Lawn by Hammond Fire Paramedics, according to Sgt. Glen Fifield of The Indiana State Police. No helicopter was available at the time for transport, contrary to other reports by media outlets. A friend of the patients told RNS both are doing well despite a few broken bones and lacerations.

A witness on scene told RNS the white sedan began to lose control like she was fishtailing and cut across multiple lanes before stopping underneath the semi. Traffic wasn’t moving fast and described to be under the speed limit which the witness believed saved their lives. RNS received multiple messages of a semi losing a load of bungee cords near the state line which was causing numerous flat tires & minor car damages. It’s unclear if this may have played a part in this vehicle losing control due to a flat tire.
