Crown Point Woman Self Quarantined Awaiting Test And Indiana Announces First Covid-19 Death

Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb and the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) today announced the first Indiana death from COVID-19. The patient is a Marion County adult.

“A family today is suffering the ultimate loss due to COVID-19, and this sadly underscores how severe the virus can be – especially for some high-risk Hoosiers,” Gov. Holcomb said. “The state is taking unprecedented actions to slow the spread of COVID-19, and every Hoosier should follow the precautionary measures.”

The adult from Marion County died at a Community Health Network hospital on Monday morning. The person, who was over age 60, had been hospitalized as a COVID-19 patient and also suffered from underlying medical conditions. No further information will be released about the patient or the case.

Here in the Region we have learned a Crown Point resident is currently self quarantining herself after she got back negative test results for the flu, Strep Throat, and RSV according to Lakeshore Public Radio. She is scheduled to have Covid-19 test done sometime today. https://www.lakeshorepublicradio.org/post/quarantining-crown-point#stream/0

  1. Her story is so similar to mine and have also had negative flu/step swabs. I live in Crown Point and also got tested today for Coronavirus in Kouts, but I’m a nurse and work in Chicago and was at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra before I got sick not O’Hare like her. Hoping for some answers too.

  2. The patient had underlying medical conditions but they can’t discuss those. Is it not possible that the virus didn’t kill them directly? Why not say that instead of inducing more panic?
I’m not feeling good so I’m going to self quarantine. That’s a headline too?
    Stop feeding into the frenzy!

    1. And the poor guy had to pass with a nurse in PPE instead of his wife next to him. His wife was already positive for Covid-19. She had to be “with” him via iPad. Stupid.

  3. It really doesn’t matter what the underlying conditions were. Because of them, this virus caused death. The point is to isolate because this is PUBLIC HEALTH–we isolate so that we don’t spread it, increase the risk of those with current health issues from dying from the impact of the virus, and increase the already negative economic impacts this is having. This isn’t about just me; this is about us.
