Munster Gyro Crash Update And Charges Filed

​On March 4, 2020 at approximately 6:00pm, Munster Officers were dispatched to a welfare check on the driver of a vehicle in the 8200 block of Calumet Ave, Lt. John Peirick of The Munster Police stated. Upon arrival, Officers approached a silver Ford SUV that was stopped in traffic facing southbound.  The driver, now identified as Jason Weede, 39 of Highland Indiana was not initially alert as the Officers attempted to gain his attention.  Weede then became alert and accelerated his vehicle at a high rate of speed. Weede’s vehicle first struck the building at 8244 Calumet Ave, Miss Print, causing damage to the front, then continued across Calumet Avenue striking the west side of 8307 Calumet Avenue, Munster Gyros.  The vehicle came to rest inside the building and caused major damage to the structure.  

Two people inside the restaurant were injured and transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries, Peirick said.

Following an investigation and after presenting the case to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, Jason Weede has been charged with two counts of Operating While Intoxicated(felony and misdemeanor), Possession of Cocaine (felony) and Operating While Intoxicated Endangering a Person (misdemeanor)

As of this week Munster Gyros reopened and is happy to be serving the community again. Still some repairs to be done inside the establishment along with new tables being delivered the owner stated but the major repairs were completed and they were able to reopen.
