DEPUTIES INVESTIGATE SINGLE VEHICLE PERSONAL INJURY CRASH
On December 21, 2019, at approximately 3:47 AM, deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle crash in the 3900 north block of CR 100 West, in rural Center Township.
Deputies Andrew Hahn and Austin Wells arrived and located a silver passenger vehicle severely damaged along the east side of the roadway. An injured male subject was found lying on the ground near the passenger side of the vehicle. The subject had an upper body injury. A thorough search of the area for the driver commenced but yielded negative results.
The injured subject was treated at the scene by emergency personnel. A medical helicopter was also summoned to the scene. The subject was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment where he remains.
Deputies from the LCSO Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) were activated to assist. Evidence at the scene indicated the vehicle was traveling north on CR 100 West. For an unknown reason, the vehicle left the east side of the roadway and struck two (2) trees.
The injured subject has been identified as Jemale C. NICHOLS (39 YOA) of Michigan City.
