East Chicago Police Investigating Double Homicide
East Chicago Police are currently investigating a double homicide that occurred around 4:00 PM Friday near the corner of 139th & Main St.
Preliminary information from officials and witnesses say two males were possibly making a rap video near the intersection on Main. Multiple city cameras and businesses caught three men ambush the Jeep and shoot the two individuals who came to the scene in that vehicle, Deputy Chief Jose Rivera. The busy downtown street was filled with shoppers and citizens walking when this occurred. The two males that were shot both succumbed to their injuries. One was deceased on scene and the other passed in a local hospital.
East Chicago Police shot spotter technology picked up 23 rapid fire shots, according to Rivera. Due to the amount of rapid fire occurring the technology was not able to get an accurate count, Rivera said. Looking at the evidence markers on scene there is over 50 markers surrounding a Jeep.
Victim 1 was identified as Antoine R. Moore Jr., 23, of East Chicago. He was transported to St. Catherine Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by the ER Doctor. Victim 2 was identified as Basha Woods, 24, of Chicago, Illinois. He was pronounced deceased on scene by responding medical personnel.
