Family Disturbance Ends With Two Shot
At approximately 4:30 AM on March 2, the Hammond Police Department responded to a residence in the 1900 block of Warwick Avenue following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds, according to Hammond Police.
One of the victims sustained a shoulder injury and was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, the second individual, identified as Charles Stokes, 21, of Merrillville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Stokes death was ruled a homicide.
Preliminary findings suggest that this tragic incident unfolded during a family argument, police said. Detectives from the Hammond Police Department are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Hammond Police Department wants to reassure the community that this is an isolated incident, and there is no immediate threat to the public.
