Fatal Accident Sunday On 80/94 Near Calumet
On Sunday, January 31st, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Master Trooper Latiker with The Indiana State Police was dispatched to what was originally dispatched as a single vehicle crash on I-80/94 at the 0.4 mile-marker, according to Sgt. Glen Fifield. This is just east of the Illinois/Indiana state line.
Preliminary investigation by M/Trp. Latiker shows that a green 2005 Kia was eastbound when the driver lost control and struck the median wall, Fifield said. With the Kia being disabled and partially in the left lane, the driver exited the Kia and was standing outside of the vehicle on the passenger side when both the driver and Kia were struck by another vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Charger. The Lake County Coroner declared the driver of the Kia deceased at the scene.
Assisting at the scene were the Hammond Fire Department and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
The deceased has yet to be identified by the coroner’s office.
