A Man Attempted To Flee From EC Police Found With Drugs

On February 1, 2021 at approximately 11:00 AM a East Chicago Gang & Narcotics Investigator was field training a Probationary Officer when they observed a silver vehicle traveling the wrong way on a one way street, according to Deputy Chief Jose Rivera of The East Chicago Police.

The silver vehicle was traveling North on the 4200 block of Ivy Street, which is a one way street for southbound traffic only. Officers activated the emergency lights & sirens to his fully marked squad car and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Both officers approached the vehicle & advised the driver why he was stopped.

The driver who was identified as 41 year old Larry V. Luckett Jr of Stoughton, Wisconsin handed officers his Wisconsin drivers license. Officers asked if he had any insurance and the driver stated “Nah I don’t have any” “Can you just give me my ticket so I can go?” An officer observed a glass Mason jar containing suspected marijuana in the front seat in plain view, Rivera stated. Officers then asked the driver if there were any weapons or drugs in the car. The driver only stated that there were no weapons in the car.

Once additional backup arrived the driver was asked to step out of the vehicle. The driver instead placed the vehicle in gear and attempted to flee, Rivera stated. An officer entered the vehicle and placed the vehicle in neutral preventing the driver from fleeing in his vehicle. The driver continued to step on the accelerator and reached for the gear shifter, Rivera said.

The driver refused to listen to officers commands while he actively resisted and continued to attempt to put the vehicle in gear. The driver was forcibly removed from his vehicle after a struggle. Once out of the vehicle he continued to resist and ignored officers commands.

The officer then warned the driver that he was going to be tased if he continued to resist and not comply. The driver continued to resist was tased, Rivera said. The driver immediately complied after being tased and was placed under arrest without further incident.

A search of the vehicle was conducted prior to impoundment and numerous narcotics were found in the vehicle. The driver (Larry V. Lucket Jr) was charged with the following charges:
