On Thursday, September 8, 2022 at approximately 12:11 PM the Gary Police Department received a call for service reference shots fired and a possible gunshot wound victim, in the 4100 block of Buchanan Street, according to Commander Jack Hamady.
Officers arrived on scene and were directed to the inside of a residence, where an adult male was suffering from gunshot wounds. At that time officers located a 51 year old adult male with multi gunshot wounds to his body and appeared to not be breathing, Hamady stated. Gary Fire Department arrived on scene and checked the vital signs of the adult male who was lifeless.
Officers began to secure the crime scene and contacted The Lake County Crime Lab, The Lake County Coroners Office and Gary / Lake County Metro Homicide Unit.
The Lake County Coroner has identified the victim as Curtis Burnside, 51, of Gary.
While officers were on scene, witnesses advised that Burnside was outside his residence with a known party when they heard gunshots. The victim came into the residence bleeding from gun shot wounds and collapsed on the floor. A canine was also grazed on the left side behind their left front leg.
Witnesses gave a description of the person of interest and what kind of vehicle he drives. Gary/Lake County Metro Detectives arrived on scene and canvased the area. While doing the canvas
a person of interest was located a few residences from the original call for service. Gary Police along with Metro Detectives took the person of interest into custody and he was transported to Gary Police Department.
On September 09, 2022, detectives presented charges to the Lake County Prosecutors Office, who secured charges of murder. The person of interest that was charged is 61 year old male Lamar Golston from Gary.
The owner of the canine took the canine to a local veterinarian to be checked.
