Hammond Police Investigating Shooting Friday Night

At approximately 11:57 PM, on November 24, the Hammond Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 800 block of Indiana, according to Hammond Police.

Upon arrival, an unknown male flagged down the officers, informing them that another male had been shot and was unresponsive in a vehicle which had crashed into home. The vehicle, having collided with the front steps, was still in drive with the front wheels spinning, and the front of the car was beginning to catch fire, police stated.

Officers rushed to the scene, discovering a black male in the driver’s seat, unresponsive. The severity of the situation prompted officers to request Hammond Fire Department, which responded promptly.

Despite attempts to open the locked car doors, access was eventually gained through breaking the passenger side window. The victim was now responsive and alert. He was transported to a Chicago area hospital for treatment. The vehicle had several bullet holes, and its windows had been shot out.

The Hammond Police Department is actively investigating the incident. Anyone with additional information related to this incident is urged to contact Det. Sgt. Elkmann or the Hammond Police Department Detective Bureau at 219-852-2906.
