Hammond Police Talk Barricaded Suspect Out Peacefully

On January 30th, at approximately 7:40 PM, Hammond police detectives attempted to serve a warrant on a subject at a residence in the 7000 block of Schneider Ave according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police. Detectives believed that the suspect could be dangerous and that he refused to exit the home, Kellogg stated. A Hammond police Crisis Negotiator was on scene and witnesses could hear police on the loud speaker attempting to talk the suspect out. Police were then able to get the suspect on the phone after about 30 minutes.. The 41-year-old male was identified as Demetrius Sims and was wanted on multiple felony domestic battery warrants. Radio traffic indicated the man was also brought a few Whoppers from Burger King as part of negotiations. The subject was arrested without incident peacefully, Kellogg said.
