Highland Auto Theft Leads To Police Chase Of Two Stolen Cars

On Thursday March 5th at 4:21am, officers were dispatched to 2730 Grand Blvd. for a report that a brown 2009 Chevy Impala had just been stolen as the owner had left the car running in front of his house to warm up, according to Commander John Banasiak of The Highland Police. The vehicle owner reported that he ran to the corner to see if he could see what direction his vehicle went on Kennedy and he saw his vehicle parked in the parking lot of the laundromat at the corner of Grand and Kennedy.  The victim stated he could see several subjects rummaging through his car and there was a white four door next to his car.  He then saw a male running with a knife and he thought that the laundromat in that complex had been robbed as both vehicles then fled the parking lot together, Banasiak said.  An Officer arrived in the area and observed the Impala and white four door vehicles westbound on Duluth Street which then turned northbound onto Kennedy.  The officer began to pursue the vehicles as they entered westbound I-94.  Once another officer arrived on scene and was able to make contact with the victim/car owner, it was learned that there had not been a robbery at the laundromat and that was relayed to the pursuing officer, Banasiak said.  During the pursuit, the officer encountered heavy traffic and due to the reckless driving of the suspects and the suspects’ driving putting other motorists at risk, the pursuit was terminated, per police decision.  It was learned that the white four door vehicle was also a stolen vehicle.

Highland Police have no other information at this time on suspects. If you have any information you are asked to contact the Highland Police Department.
