ISP Welcomes New Detective And Retires K9

Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter recently announced the promotion of Senior Trooper Christopher P. Eagles to the rank of Senior Trooper Detective to serve at the Lowell Post. Detective Eagles earned this promotion through written testing and a competitive interview process.

Det. Eagles is a native of Carmel, IN, graduating from Carmel High School in 2003 before attending Purdue University.  While at Purdue, he obtained his bachelor’s degree, majoring in Law & Society, with a minor in Forensic Science as well as History.  In 2011, he was selected to attend and graduated from the 70th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy located in Plainfield, IN.  After graduating, Eagles was assigned to the Toll Road Post.  In 2012, Eagles was recognized for leading the Toll Road Post for his O.W.I. arrests.  He was selected as the “Trooper of the District” for the Indiana Toll Road Post in 2017.

During his tenure with the department, Det. Eagles has been an FTO (Field Training Officer) as well as a D.R.E. (Drug Recognition Expert).  In 2015, Eagles became a K9 handler and was partnered with Axel.  The two have become well known for their work together the past 6 years making several large seizures.  Their most notable arrest was this past December when they seized 33.65 lbs. of Fentanyl during a traffic stop. 

With the promotion of Senior Trooper Eagles to Detective, Axel has officially retired and will spend his retirement with his handler.  When asked for comment, Axel just squeaked his favorite toy and trotted off into retirement.
