Man Charged In Hammond Boost Mobile Robbery By District Attorney
On Wednesday February 12, 2020 Hammond Police, FBI GRIT Team, Hazel Crest Police, Merrillville Police, and Illinois Departments conducted an arrest in Hammond on the 6400 block of Missouri Ct. Police took a man into custody believed to have been involved in Cell Phone store robberies in the area. What led police to this location is believed to be an Armed Robbery which occurred in Hazel Crest early Wednesday. A car matching the description was located here. We have reached out to Hazel Crest Police but they have not returned our call.
Daniel Smith, 26, of Chicago, Illinois, was charged in a criminal complaint with robbery affecting interstate commerce of a Hammond Boost Mobile store, announced U.S. Attorney Kirsch.
The criminal complaint alleges that on January 24, 2020, Daniel Smith entered the Boost Mobile store located at 2741 169th Street, Hammond, Indiana, held employees at gunpoint, and ordered them to fill up a duffel bag with cellular phones, after which he left the store with the bag full of phones.
The United States Attorney’s Office emphasizes that a criminal complaint is merely an allegation and that all persons are presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty in court.
This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Gang Response Investigative Team and Hammond Police Department with assistance from the Merrillville and Hazel Crest, Illinois Police Departments. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Caitlin M. Padula.
