Multiple Suspects Arrested After Armed Robbery
On Thursday, December 10th, 2020 at approximately 02:43 P.M., the LaPorte County Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference to an armed robbery in the 600 block of East 9th Street, according to Michigan City Police.
Patrol Officers were dispatched to this area and spoke with an adult male victim upon their arrival. The victim reported to officers he was robbed of his personal property and followed the suspects to a nearby residence in the 500 block of East 10th Street. Officers located the suspects and evidence from the crime at this residence.
The MCPD Investigative Division was immediately contacted and continued this investigation. The crime scenes were processed, and interviews continue to be conducted with those involved in this incident. Two 16-year-old juveniles and 18-year-old Michigan City resident Martel Smith were eventually arrested during this investigation.
The first juvenile was arrested for Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 Felony) and the second juvenile was arrested for Robbery (Level 3 Felony). Smith was arrested for a Failure to Appear warrant for Operating a Vehicle without Receiving a Driver’s License (C-Misd.) and was not issued a bond. Smith’s arrest photo was provided by the LaPorte County Jail.
