Stolen Car Pursued After Dollar General Robbed

On December 11, at approximately 12:09 p.m., the Hammond Police Department was dispatched to Walgreens located at 7236 Calumet in reference to a shop lifting, according Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police. Officers arrived and spoke with an employee who was able to provide a suspect and vehicle description.

This same vehicle and driver was a suspect in an earlier robbery at the Dollar General located at 504 165th and the driver allegedly made threats at JJ Fish located at 6846 Calumet, Kellogg added. Additionally, the vehicle driven by the suspect was reported stolen out of East Chicago this week.

Hammond Officers located and pursued the vehicle after it refused to stop on 80/94. The pursuit ended in Gary where the suspect was apprehended. A minor accident occurred, when the driver of the suspect vehicle hit a parked, unoccupied car, Kellogg said. No injuries were reported. The suspect also had felony arrest warrants. He was taken into custody awaiting charges to be approved.
