Chesterton Girl Is An Angel To Many This Season

With so much need this holiday season due to hardships from lack of work and stresses of the pandemic, small blessings begin to shine out of the gloom for those in need.

One of these blessings occurred earlier this month at a fundraiser in Chesterton put on by Johnny Boersma, Founder of Mission One who partnered with Owner Vernon Brown of The Chesterton Brewery to help a local Marine & their family who were dealing with such recent hardships. It just so happened a young lady from Chesterton, named Serenity Morgan-Sigler, age 9, along with her Mother Krystal Morgan were dining at the restaurant during the event. Serenity is described as one of the most compassionate and generous little girls you will ever meet. “That was shown in Serenity’s latest act of kindness,” said Boersma.

Serenity, without reluctance, told her mom she wanted to donate $50 of her own hard-earned money to help. Serenity who walks dogs along with helping out around the house doing weekly chores to earn her allowance saves her money weekly. “She donated 2 ½ weeks of pay without thinking twice all because she wanted to make sure that the family has a wonderful Christmas,” Boersma told RNS.

Serenity has also asked her family & friends that plan on buying her a gift to instead donate one to the Toys for Tots Drive. “Whenever she is able, she donates what she can. All she is asking is if anyone is able, they do the same,” said her mother Krystal.

Johnny Boersma was so touched by the little girl’s generosity, he arranged for a GoFundMe to get started in Serenity’s honor to send her and her mother to Disney. That fundraiser brought in $250 quickly, however, Serenity found out and kindly asked that the money raised would be used toward gifts for Toys for Tots.

On Saturday, Serenity along with her mother Krystal, Johnny Boersma founder of Mission One, Werner Christmas Wonderland in Merrillville, Merrillville Police Officers and Chi Town Large Cars took over Merrillville Meijer on a mission to get as many gifts as they could for Toys for Tots. “I’m glad so many people helped out to raise money for the children,” Serenity told RNS. “I want to continue helping Johnny.”

Vernon Brown & Serenity present a check to Mission One

Saturday evening, Serenity had the distinct honor of co-presenting a check along side Vernon Brown, owner of The Chesterton Brewery to Mission One in the amount of $1,600 for the Marine & his family. In return Serenity was presented a “Challenge Coin” by both Mission One & The Chesterton Brewery for being a philanthropist and making the world a better place.
