Multiple Tanker Train Cars Derail In East Chicago
Breaking –
East Chicago Police & Fire Department are responding to a multiple tanker car train derailment on CSX train tracks located between Euclid & Kennedy. Lake County Hazmat is being dispatched as a possible HAZMAT situation exists radio traffic is suggesting. It is believed the Kennedy Ave crossing is blocked currently. Avoid the area.
We have a crew enroute and will update as information becomes available.
UPDATE – Assistant Chief Carlos Aburto of The East Chicago Fire Department has told Region News there is 18 crude oil tankers derailed. They are currently accessing if any at all are leaking. There is also a precautionary evacuation area to the south of the train tracks, Aburto stated.
