Munster Bank Robber In Custody / One At Large
On June 15th, 2021, at approximately 3:20 PM, Fifth Third Bank, 8007 Calumet Avenue in Munster, was robbed. The suspect was described as a tall, slender black male, dressed in a white “hazmat” type suit, blue hard hat, and goggles. The suspect approached a teller presented a note, demanded US currency, and inferred he had a weapon. The suspect fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of US currency in an unknown direction.
After a thorough investigation and with the assistance of both the Michigan City Police Department and the Winfield Town Marshal, Munster Police were able to present charges against Jovontae Isahia Newman(22) of Gary IN. and Michael Desean Anderson (32) of Gary IN. to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
Both individuals were charged with two counts of robbery and one count conspiracy to commit robbery. These two individuals are both suspected in other robberies in Michigan City and Winfield, Police said.
Michael Desean Anderson is in custody at the Lake County Jail and Jovontae Isahia Newman is still at large.
