Munster Police Investigating Shots Fired On Calumet Ave

Munster Police are currently investigating a disturbance / shots fired call that came in around 4:20PM Tuesday in the parking lot of Mattress Firm & Five Guys on the 8200 block of Calumet Ave, according to Lt. John Peirick of The Munster Police.

A witness on scene stated a couple was arguing when she was walking to her vehicle. While entering her car she heard one shot fired. At that point multiple calls came into Central Dispatch for shots fired and a person with a gun arguing with a female.

On arrival police found a crime scene in the parking lot and located a possible female suspect in a Kia that was believed to be involved. The Kia fled the scene leading Munster Police on a pursuit that entered Hammond, Peirick said. Munster Officers lost the vehicle in Hammond, however Hammond Police found the Kia and gave pursuit. At one point during the pursuit the suspect attempted to run through a roadblock and went through a yard. The suspect vehicle then jumped on 80/94 Westbound and escaped pursuing units.

Munster Police believe this to be domestic related and there is no threat to the public. Munster Police continue to investigate this Tuesday night. No suspects are in custody at this time.

  1. A bullet will stop traveling when it strikes someone or something. There’s always a threat to the public when a firearm is fired outdoors.
