One Vehicle Accident Knocks Down Power Pole

Crown Point Fire Department responded to a single car accident Saturday morning around 3:32am on W. 109th (US231) Fire Chief David Crane told Region News. Fire crews arrived on scene to a car that knocked a NIPSCO utility pole down and red vehicle in flames. The female driver told crews she had swerved to avoid an animal, Crane stated. There were no injuries from this accident.

Police are investigating if alcohol or drugs may have played a role in this crash.

Crown Point Fire and NIPSCO would like to remind people of the danger of power lines in an accident like this. If a power line does fall on your vehicle follow these tips provided by NIPSCO –

Call 911 and stay in your vehicle of possible. Only exit the vehicle if you’re in immediate danger. When you do exit jump away from the vehicle and try to land with both feet close together, and then shuffle you feet together and walk away. Once you have cleared the vehicle do not return to it till it’s deemed safe. Warn others trying to help not to touch the vehicle and call for help.
