Police Arrest Two In String Of Thefts From Trucks & Rail Yards
Illinois State Police (ISP) District 15 Investigations arrested and charged Travis Burrows, 26-year-old male of Dolton, Illinois, for Possession of Stolen Goods (Class 3 Felony) and Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 3 Felony) and Reginald Elston, 25-year-old male of Dolton, Illinois, for Possession of Stolen Goods (Class 3 Felony) on Aug. 28, 2020.
Beginning in Nov. of 2019, the ISP District 15 Investigations began investigating multiple calls for cargo theft reports taking place at various Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (IHSTA) Oases truck lots. The ISP with the assistance of the North Central Narcotics Task Force (NCNTF)began a thorough and extensive investigation into these cargo thefts in order to identify any suspects. It was discovered the string of cargo thefts and criminal activity had targeted semi-trailers and railroad yards along the Tollway.
On Aug. 28, 2020, at approximately 6:15 a.m., the ISP, NCNTF, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Police Department, and Riverdale Police Department, executed a search warrant at the 14700 block of Kenwood Avenue in Dolton, Illinois. After an audio call-out by the ISP, Burrows and Elston exited the residence and were placed under arrest without incident. A thorough search of the residence for stolen goods from the multiple cargo theft reports, yielded various stolen apparel and coffee items. Also recovered was cannabis, one handgun, five firearm magazines, and multiple calibers of ammunition.
On Aug. 28, 2020, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of Possession of Stolen Goods (Class 3 Felony) and one count of Unlawful Use of Weapon (Class 3 Felony) against Burrows, and one count of Possession of Stolen Goods (Class 3 Felony) against Elston. Burrows was released upon payment of bond set at $5,000, 10% to apply, with electronic monitoring; Elston was released on a $20,000 Individual Recognizance Bond (I-Bond). The investigation is ongoing, Police stated.
