On Sunday, April 10th, 2022 at approximately 7 PM Schererville Police received a 911 call in reference to a carjacking that just occurred at a car wash in the 8100 block of Burr Street, according to Commander Kevin Wagner.

It was reported that a vehicle, a 2020 black Honda Accord, was taken at gunpoint by 2 males with facemasks.

Merrillville Police were able to locate the stolen vehicle a short time later using the towns License Plate Readers (LPR) near US 30, Merrillville Assistant Chief Kosta Nuses told RNS. A brief pursuit ensued ending near 61st & Taft.

Merrillville Police were parked in the 6200 Block of SR 55 ready to deploy stop sticks, Nuses said. The fleeing vehicle hit a parked squad car causing it to collide with other vehicles. There were no reported injuries.

“I’m very proud of my officers for being vigilant and always ready to catch the bad guys,” Nuses said.

This investigation is still ongoing and charges are pending against the suspects that are currently in custody.
