Strack & Van Til’s Update On Additional COVID-19 Cases And Safety Measures
We reached back to Strack & Van Til this week on an update on our earlier story from April 11th on the Munster store confirming two positive cases of COVID-19. RNS spoke with Manager Derek Kinney Friday who told us the two cases concerning employees last week are doing better and recovering at home. As of this week unfortunately Strack’s announced an additional two cases at the Munster store. Kinney stated one of these new cases was expected last week but they were just waiting on test results which took quite a few days. That employee has been quarantined for the same time frame however as the others. The fourth case is not believed to be related to the others but both are at home and recovering in good condition, Kinney stated.
All the Strack & Van Til branches went through a professional deep cleaning on April 15th while the stores were closed for the holiday, Kinney said. This cleaning included everything that customers and employees come in contact with and is now being done on a more frequent basis because of the pandemic. The holiday closure also gave employees who have been working vigorously nonstop a day of rest and to spend time with family. The Munster location was also professionally cleaned again during the evening of April 15th.
With more safety steps added this week including limiting the amount of people in stores at once, (which is measured by allowing 5 people per 1000 square foot on the size of each individual store) as well as one shopper per cart in the store. However Kinney says exceptions are being made for customers such as a single mom with a child or an elderly shopper in need of a helper. These measures of protocol added to last weeks steps with the installation of sneeze guards at the registers for added protection for associates along with all employees required to wear masks.
Strack’s is doing all they can to protect employees as well as customers during this time. Kinney told RNS the other branches of Strack & Van Til’s have not had any issues reported. Below is the link to the added measures the grocery chain initiated Easter week.
Lots of untruths from Derek Kinney. Store doesn’t limit anyone. Packed with people, no professional crew. When is Stracks going to just shut down and do a thorough cleaning?? There are many more out awaiting results that is factual. They are not speaking the truth. First hand knowledge here.
I guess it depends on which Syracks you are at. Rensselaer Stracks has a marked lineup lane outside. And a person with a hand held counter counting the people entering the store. They wore masks and gloves and spray cleaned your cart before they gave it to you. I was there 2 dsys ago
What about requiring all customers to have some sort of face cloth/mask on as well, after all that is the guidelines set forth by the CDC, in addition to having employees or staff monitoring and strictly adhering to the limited customers & social distancing requirements.
