Two Shot In La Porte At Chaotic Scene Police Say
On Saturday, 03/28/2020 the La Porte Police Department afternoon shift was dispatched to the 1400 block of Jefferson Avenue which is just West of downtown, in reference to a shooting around 7pm, according to La Porte Chief of Police Paul Brettin. When officers arrived they encountered a very large group of subjects and a very chaotic scene, Brettin said. Officers from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police arrived to assist with preserving the scene and crowd control that was very tense and unstable for some time, Brettin stated Sunday.
There were two people shot during this incident. Police say a person of interest is detained and being held.
Detectives from La Porte Police, LaPorte County Drug Task Force and LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department worked together tirelessly on this case and continue to do so at this time. Police are asking that public not speculate on any aspects of this case right now and let the Detectives and Prosecutors Office to document the facts.
