Warrants Issued For Chicago Man Involved In Munster Shooting

On May 30, 2021, Munster Police investigated a shooting that occurred near Beverly Place and State Line Ave. which stemmed from a confrontation at Cheap Tobacco, located at 15 Ridge Road, according to Lt. John Peirick of The Munster Police.

Three relatives who were at the store, were leaving and as they backed out of a space, the driver of the vehicle next to theirs became irate and got out of his vehicle and struck the window of the relatives with his fist, police stated. The victims exited the lot and observed the driver of the other vehicle begin to chase them. The victims reached speeds of 60-70MPH in an alley north of Cheap Tobacco, fearing they were going to be rammed by the suspect. Subsequently, the relatives observed this suspect/driver roll down his window and fire a gun at their vehicle. The bullet missed the victim’s vehicle and struck an unoccupied parked car on Beverly Place.

Munster Detectives located evidence that led them to the driver/shooter, identified as Romel Brocks Jr. (24) of Chicago. Brocks Jr. admitted to being involved in a disturbance at the above location, Peirick stated.

Brocks Jr. was charged by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office with 3 counts of Criminal Recklessness and 1 count of Criminal Mischief. Brocks Jr. is currently at large.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Brocks Jr. is asked to contact Munster Police Detective Justin Palas at 219-836-6629 or jpalas@munster.org.
