JASPER COUNTY — A semi-truck driver was killed Saturday morning following a collision with an Amtrak train in rural Jasper County.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, the crash occurred at approximately 8:10 a.m. on April 18, 2026, near County Road 210 East in the area of McCoysburg. Multiple 911 calls were received reporting a train versus semi collision, including a call from a crew member aboard the train confirming the impact.

Preliminary investigation indicates the semi-truck was traveling northbound on County Road 210 East when it attempted to cross the railroad tracks and was struck by a westbound Amtrak train.

Authorities reported the crossing is equipped with standard railroad crossing signage and stop signs, which were confirmed to be upright at the time of the crash.

The train was carrying approximately 94 passengers along with crew members.

The driver of the semi-truck was transported to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, where he later died from his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

Officials said approximately four to five additional individuals sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. No serious injuries among train passengers have been reported.

Passengers aboard the train were safely evacuated and transported by bus to a secure location while crews conducted the investigation.

Numerous agencies responded to the scene, including multiple EMS departments, the Rensselaer Fire Department, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, and the Indiana State Police.
