Shavone Murry, 35, of South Bend, is facing charges after police say she stole merchandise from a Kohl’s store in Highland and later provided a false name to officers.

According to court documents, officers with the Highland Police Department were dispatched on April 16, 2026, at approximately 3:35 p.m. to Kohl’s, 10353 Indianapolis Boulevard, in reference to a theft. Loss prevention reported that two females had “stole items, passed all points of purchase, and were heading S/B in the parking lot in a gold Lexus.”

Officers observed a gold 2003 Lexus leaving the Highland Grove Mall and conducted a traffic stop. Police made contact with the driver and a passenger later identified as Murry. According to the affidavit, Murry “admitted to concealing two travel sized perfumes on her person, passing all points of purchase, with no intention on paying for the items,” and handed the items to officers.

Police say Murry initially denied having identification and told officers her name was “Kenya Columbus” with a listed date of birth of June 2007, also claiming she was 18 years old. A computer check on that name returned no record, and she was unable to provide any documentation to verify the identity.

During the investigation, loss prevention advised that both individuals were seen on store surveillance concealing “at least 6 plus perfume’s each on their person.” Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located several additional travel-sized perfumes, along with multiple bags of merchandise without receipts.

According to the affidavit, officers later located a purse containing documents identifying the passenger as Shavone Murry. Police say Murry then admitted to being “deceitful about her name.” A computer check also revealed three active warrants at the time.

Authorities reported that numerous items were recovered, including multiple “travel juice” perfumes with a total listed value of $314.58. Investigators also noted the presence of numerous store bags, including 30 Hot Topic bags and 54 Aeropostale bags, with merchandise that did not match the stores listed on the bags.

Court records show Murry has prior theft convictions, including a February 11, 2026 conviction in Marion County and an April 11, 2024 conviction in Lake County.

Lodged in the Lake County Jail.
