Jason Davar Johnson, 47, of Trail Creek, is facing felony charges after a traffic stop at the intersection of Ann Street and Franklin Street led to the discovery of a large amount of suspected lookalike narcotics.

According to court documents, officers observed a vehicle at a gas station in the 1200 block of Franklin Street with false license plates before initiating a stop near Ann Street. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected the odor of burnt marijuana and removed the occupants from the vehicle.

During a search, police located multiple bags containing a green plant-like substance, a prescription pill bottle, and U.S. currency.

Investigators reported recovering approximately 431 grams of the substance in one bag and an additional 5.6 grams in another, along with $481 in cash.

Police stated Johnson told officers the substance was “herbs and spices” used to make tea and smoke, adding that people referred to him as a “doctor” because it helped with sickness. He also admitted that individuals would come to him to purchase the substance.

Johnson was taken into custody and transported to the LaPorte County Jail.
