Paul Douglas Green, 46, of Gary, is facing multiple felony charges after police say a 13-year-old girl was found inside a boarded-up residence Friday night in the 3800 block of Madison Street.
According to court documents, Gary Police officers responded to the residence at approximately 10 p.m. on May 8 after receiving a 911 call regarding a possible kidnapping. Officers reported the home appeared abandoned, with windows and doors boarded up.
Police said officers encountered Green outside the residence carrying a bag of food from Shark’s restaurant. Court documents state Green told officers he had a key to the home while police attempted to gain entry. Investigators said officers had to forcibly remove the key from Green’s hand in order to unlock the entrance door and enter the residence.
Inside the home, officers located a 13-year-old girl who appeared to be in significant emotional distress. Court documents state the juvenile was visibly crying, shaking and fearful when officers found her. Investigators also observed apparent injuries to her face and reported her clothing appeared disheveled and out of place.
According to investigators, the juvenile told officers she had run away from her home earlier in the day because she feared getting in trouble. Court documents state she encountered Green while walking near 38th Avenue and Broadway in Gary. Police allege Green punched the juvenile in the face and forced her to his residence in the 3800 block of Madison Street, where she remained until officers arrived. The juvenile also accused Green of rape.
Court documents state the juvenile complained of pain and told officers she believed she lost consciousness during the incident. She also complained of head pain before being transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Investigators said the juvenile identified Green as the person responsible for the incident after officers escorted her from the residence. Police also reported locating items inside the residence they believed were relevant to the investigation.
Court documents state Green later told detectives he encountered the juvenile after leaving Broadway Liquors at 3815 Broadway in Gary. Green reportedly claimed the juvenile appeared hungry and in distress and voluntarily followed him to the residence. Detectives stated Green admitted he locked the juvenile inside the residence while he left to get food.
