The East Chicago Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual captured in newly released surveillance images in connection with an armed robbery at the Dollar General located at 1015 W. Chicago Avenue.
According to investigators, officers were dispatched to the store at approximately 8:55 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, after receiving a report of an armed robbery in progress. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene.
The preliminary investigation determined that at approximately 8:48 a.m., an unknown male entered the store, confronted an employee, displayed a handgun, and demanded money from both the cash register and the store safe. Fearing for their safety, the employee complied.

Police said the suspect fled the business with approximately $2,002.85 in cash.
Surveillance video shows the suspect wearing black shoes, a white Nike tracksuit, a black jacket, and a white hooded sweatshirt or face covering. The suspect exited the store at approximately 8:52 a.m. and was last seen traveling south in the 4700 block of Northcote Avenue.
Officers canvassed the surrounding neighborhood and searched for residential surveillance footage, but investigators were unable to determine the suspect’s direction of travel.
No injuries were reported during the robbery.
The East Chicago Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division has now released surveillance photographs of the suspect and is asking anyone who recognizes the individual or has information about the case to come forward.

Police are also asking anyone with surveillance or dash camera footage from the area of 1015 W. Chicago Avenue between 8:40 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on July 7 to review their video and contact investigators if they captured anything that could assist the investigation.
