A Kentland man is facing felony charges after police allege he took inappropriate photographs of a child during the Newton County Fair’s Little Miss and Mister Contest.

According to court documents, Danny Ray Gossett,75, is accused of using a camera with a zoom lens to photograph a young female contestant while she was seated in the grandstands. A witness alerted authorities after allegedly observing Gossett take photographs from an angle that exposed the child’s crotch area beneath her dress. 

Police said they contacted Gossett outside the grandstands, where he acknowledged taking photographs that evening and showed officers images stored on his camera. One of the photographs allegedly depicted the child from below her dress. Investigators told Gossett the photograph was inappropriate, and he reportedly said he would delete it. 

According to the affidavit, Gossett told investigators the camera was held below eye level because of the type of camera he was using, while a witness reported noticing the camera’s position because he was seated directly behind Gossett and could see the camera screen.
