A man accused of fatally shooting a former co-worker inside a Lansing manufacturing facility earlier this month has been captured and charged with murder.

According to the Lansing Police Department, officers responded to Nippon Paint Automotive Americas (NPAA), located at 2701 E. 170th Street, at approximately 12:48 p.m. on June 4 for a report of shots fired inside the business.

When officers arrived, they located 48-year-old Andrew Coleman of Highland, Indiana, suffering from gunshot wounds inside an office area of the facility. Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police immediately secured the facility with assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies and determined the suspect had fled before officers arrived. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was activated and joined Lansing detectives in the investigation.

Investigators identified 31-year-old Devon A. Johnson of Thornton, Illinois, a former employee of the company, as the suspect in the shooting. Authorities later tracked Johnson to Chicago, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Following a review of the case by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Johnson was formally charged with First Degree Murder. He was processed at the Lansing Police Department and is scheduled to appear for a first appearance hearing at the Cook County Courthouse in Markham.

The investigation remains ongoing.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
