Miranda Christine Sabody, 25, of Whiting, has been charged in Lake County following a Schererville Police investigation into allegations that customers’ credit card information was fraudulently used after they placed orders with a Schererville business.

According to court documents, the investigation began on June 5, 2025, after the owner of an Edible Arrangements store at 300 U.S. 30 contacted Schererville Police regarding allegations from two customers that their credit cards had been fraudulently used after placing orders with the business. Police said surveillance video allegedly showed Sabody, a former employee, writing down both customers’ credit card information, which was against company policy.

Investigators said Sabody admitted she wrote down the customers’ credit card information but claimed she threw the paper away afterward. Detectives later reviewed the surveillance footage and continued the investigation.

According to investigators, one customer reported an unauthorized charge of about $45 at a Portage restaurant after providing his credit card information while placing an order by phone. Another customer provided records showing $804.13 in unauthorized charges, including purchases through Uber Eats, IHOP, OpenSky Credit Card and Credit One Bank. Police also reported an IHOP receipt associated with one of the transactions listed “Miranda Sabody” as the name on the online order.

Lodged in the Lake County Jail on July 8, 2026.
