A 16-year-old Michigan City boy has been charged with multiple offenses after police allege he participated in an armed carjacking at the Dune Park Train Station before fleeing in the stolen vehicle with three other juveniles, according to court documents.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the incident occurred at approximately 11:08 a.m. on June 27, 2026, at the NICTD Dune Park Train Station in the 33 East U.S. 12 area of Chesterton. The victim told police he was sitting next to his employer’s white 2024 Ford Maverick when the teen allegedly approached him, pointed an olive green handgun at him, and demanded his truck keys and cell phone. The victim told police he handed over the keys and said, “Just go.”

Court documents allege another juvenile then entered the driver’s seat of the truck while the teen got into the passenger seat. Police said the vehicle left the parking lot, stopped to pick up two additional juveniles, and fled westbound on U.S. 12. A short time later, officers located the truck and attempted a traffic stop, leading to a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into a light pole at the intersection of U.S. 12 and Melton Road in Gary. Police said all four occupants fled on foot.

According to the affidavit, one juvenile was taken into custody after running into a McDonald’s in Gary. Investigators later reviewed surveillance video from the Dune Park Train Station, which they said corroborated the victim’s account. Police allege the video showed the teen approaching the victim, pointing a firearm at him, and entering the passenger side of the stolen truck before it left the station. Officers also stated the teen was identified through surveillance images by the Michigan City Police Department.
