Corell Foster, 39, of Chicago, is facing charges after authorities say he stole multiple pairs of designer sunglasses from a Highland store before being stopped by police in Schererville.

According to court documents, the incident occurred April 10, 2026, at For Eyes in the 10300 block of Indianapolis Boulevard in Highland. Police were dispatched for an active theft, where three pairs of Gucci sunglasses were reported taken. Dispatch advised that the suspect vehicle, a white Volkswagen Passat with Illinois registration, departed southbound on Indianapolis Boulevard.

Officers made contact with an employee who reported that a male entered the business and began hovering around the men’s section where the glasses were displayed. The employee stated the suspect declined assistance and was observed concealing three pairs of Gucci sunglasses before exiting the store without attempting to pay and entering the described vehicle.

Police in Schererville later located the suspect vehicle near Wood Hollow Drive and Indianapolis Boulevard and conducted a traffic stop. Officers observed a male in the rear passenger seat matching the suspect description and identified him as Foster. Investigators said he was positively identified from a photograph taken inside the store.

Court records state Foster was taken into custody, read his Miranda rights, and refused to answer questions. Officers searched the vehicle with the driver’s consent and located bags belonging to Foster that contained items believed to be stolen. Inside the bags, officers found three pairs of brand new sunglasses with tags, which were confirmed to be the items taken from For Eyes and later returned.

The total value of the stolen items was listed as $1,845. Police also noted Foster has a prior theft conviction out of Cook County, Illinois.

Lodged in the Lake County Jail.
