Keith Duane English, 51, of Michigan City, Indiana, is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after La Porte County deputies say he battered his mother, damaged property inside a home and later spit on deputies and attempted to bite an officer during his arrest.

According to court documents, deputies responded on May 7, 2026 to the 2100 block of Maple Grove Road in Michigan City regarding a reported domestic disturbance. When deputies arrived, investigators spoke with English’s mother, who said English had returned home and started “trashing the home and throwing items everywhere.” Deputies said the woman reported English placed his hand on her throat and slapped her on the side of the head. Investigators observed red and purple bruising on the front of her neck.

Court documents state deputies also observed a shattered cellphone inside the residence that the victim said English destroyed during the incident. Photos included in the report showed extensive damage and items scattered throughout the residence and yard.

While deputies were documenting the incident, investigators said they observed English driving a black Dodge Ram pickup truck nearby. Deputies attempted a traffic stop after confirming the truck’s registration had expired, but police said English continued driving despite emergency lights and sirens being activated.

According to the affidavit, deputies eventually stopped English near Oak and Belden streets. Officers reported English appeared highly argumentative, had bloodshot eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol. While exiting the vehicle, deputies allegedly observed English attempt to conceal a glass pipe commonly used for ingesting narcotics between the driver’s seat and center console.

Investigators said English became increasingly combative while being detained, yelling obscenities while children were nearby at a school playground. Deputies allege English later spit on officers through a spit hood and attempted to bite a deputy during transport to the La Porte County Jail. Officers said English also violently grabbed and shook a mobile data terminal mounted inside the patrol vehicle and repeatedly banged his head against the patrol car window.

Police reported deputies located numerous alcohol containers inside the truck during an inventory search. Investigators said due to English’s aggressive behavior, he was not given the opportunity to complete field sobriety tests or a certified chemical test.

Lodged in the Laporte County Jail.
