Colin Obrien Caird, 42, of Goshen, is facing felony charges after Porter County deputies allegedly found him driving a stolen vehicle with a stolen license plate in Chesterton Thursday evening.

According to court documents, Porter County deputies received a FLOCK license plate reader alert regarding a stolen plate traveling northbound on Willowcreek Road near Central Avenue around 7:44 p.m. on May 21. Deputies later located the vehicle near U.S. Highway 12 and Wagner Road and initiated a traffic stop.

Police said a records check confirmed the license plate had been reported stolen. A subsequent BMV inquiry allegedly revealed the vehicle, a black 2005 Toyota Camry, had also been reported stolen out of Elkhart County.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Caird allegedly told deputies he had been given the vehicle by a friend but was unable to identify the person who provided it to him.

Lodged in the Porter County Jail.
