Alleged Drunk Driver Hits Car Splitting It In Two Ejecting Baby
On September 23, 2023, at approximately 8:35 PM, Schererville Police and Fire were dispatched to Burr St and US 30 in regards to an accident involving two cars. Upon arrival, Officers located a vehicle that had been split in half and another vehicle with severe front-end damage.
A mother and a baby were both inside the vehicle that was split in half. The baby was ejected from the vehicle and was immediately treated by medical professional(s) that stopped to assist. The mother of the vehicle had to be extracted from the vehicle by Schererville Fire and both were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the other vehicle with severe front-end damage was taken into custody with charges pending. Alcohol and speed are believed to be a factor in this crash.
The South Lake County Crash Reconstruction Team was called out and they will be the lead investigators in this case, Schererville Police said.
