Crews Battled A Fire Overnight Wednesday In Pine Township

On Wednesday, January 3rd, around 6:30 PM, Pines Fire Department responded to a reported commercial structure fire at Integrative Flavors located at 3501 E. US 12, in Pines.

The owners were alerted to an active alarm about 45 minutes after leaving the business for the evening. The alarm company was not specific to which type of alarm was occurring so the owner drove back to the business and noticed smoke coming from outside vents when he arrived. About the same time an off duty firefighter also noticed the smoke as he was passing by and called 911.

Pines Fire Chief Robert Watkins was first on scene and began to unlock doors for the owner while firefighters were responding. Chief Watkins immediately called for Mutual Aid with a Box Alarm due to the size of the structure. Crews battled the fire on arrival and then went into overhaul looking for hotspots through the night.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by The Indiana State Fire Marshal and the Porter County Fire Investigation team.

Chief Watkins thanked the following departments for their support, Liberty Fire, Burns Harbor, Porter Fire, Washington Fire, Ogden Fire, Morgan Fire, Westville Fire, Coolspring Fire, Northwest Health of Porter EMS, Northwest, EMA, Porter County Police, and State Highway.
