Firefighter Injured After Floor Collapses At Deadly House Fire

Hammond Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 7200 block of Lindberg Ave Tuesday morning around 4 AM at a home after neighbors reported smoke bailing out next door.

On arrival crews encountered heavy smoke and fire. While crews were working the fire and searching for residents a firefighter fell through the main floor to the basement and was rescued. The firefighter was transported to Loyola Medical Center with burns and is in good condition, according to Hammond Firefighters Local 556.

A resident of the home was later recovered and a search is ongoing for any other occupants that may be inside. The Indiana State Fire Marshal & Lake County Coroner were enroute as of 6:30 AM. Check back for updates.
