Hammond CVS Fire Now Being Investigated As Arson

On March 22nd, Hammond police received a call at approximately 2:08 p.m. in reference to a fire at the CVS pharmacy located at 6445 Calumet Ave, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police. Officers spoke with Hammond Fire Dept. personnel who stated that initial evidence did not support that the fire was the result of arson, Kellogg states. The fire started in a garbage can outside of the business and spread to a wall of the business. The fire was extinguished quickly with some damage to the business.

After further investigation, the fire has now been presented to the Hammond Police Department as a possible arson with a recommendation to investigate it accordingly, Kellogg said Monday. An investigation has begun with a female on a surveillance camera as the potential suspect. Hammond Detectives are gathering additional information and this will be released as soon as practical.

If anyone has information on this crime, they are asked to call the Hammond Police Department Detective Bureau at (219) 852-2906.
