Hammond Laundromat Dryer Fire

Hammond Fire Department was dispatched to Calumet Laundromat at 7337 Calumet Ave for a reported Structure Fire shortly before 8:30pm Friday night. Hammond Police arrived on scene first and evacuated the building which was filling with heavy smoke from clothes burning in a dryer employees couldn’t get open. Firefighters arrived and broke the dryer open and extinguished the clothes that were burning. Crews are now on scene ventilating the building.

  1. Just a guess…..but I think this was a result of their maintenance crew not cleaning the dryer vents…….is a typical ” dryer fire ” just like chimney fires,……if you don’t maintain them, they revolt……

  2. If the contents set on fire it’s not a lack of maintenance issue. It seems someone dried something not thoroughly cleaned or combustible. Maybe mop heads or rugs.
