Teen & Adult Male Shot In Gary Sunday

Gary Police are investigating two shootings on June 4, 2023 that injured a 17-year-old and 21-year-old.

The first shooting of a Gary teen occurred on the city’s west side. The 17-year-old told police that around 4 PM, he went to a location in the 1300 block of Rutledge to help his sister who was being “jumped”. At that location a known male pulled a handgun, began shooting at him, and he was subsequently struck in the leg. After being shot the teen’s sisters helped their brother into a gray Chevy and took him to the hospital. As they were driving away the suspect began shooting at the car striking the vehicle several times, Gary Police told RNS.

The second shooting Gary Police are investigating is the shooting of a 21-year-old Gary man in the 1300 block of Rutledge St.  The shooting occurred around 9 PM as he sat in a home visiting. Witnesses report hearing multiple gunshots and then seeing the man fall to the floor bleeding from a gunshot wound to his face. Members of the household helped the man into a silver van drove the victim to the hospital. The 21-year-old told police he has no issues with anyone and does not know who shot him.
