Jordan Randle McBride, 32, of Whiting, is facing felony charges after he attempted to rob and kidnap a woman at gunpoint at a Hammond gas station last month.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on April 24, 2026, at approximately 8:35 p.m. at the Citgo gas station in the 5200 block of Columbia Avenue in Hammond. Investigators said the victim had gone to the gas station after receiving a phone call from her cousin, who asked her to meet a man identified as “Jordan” who was supposed to provide money for her cousin.
Court documents state the victim was told the man would be driving a black Jeep. While finishing pumping gas, the victim allegedly observed a black Jeep Liberty without license plates pull into the parking lot and park near the air pumps on the south end of the property.
Investigators said the victim drove near the Jeep and invited McBride into her vehicle because it was cold outside. According to the affidavit, the victim remained on the phone with her cousin after McBride entered the passenger seat of the car. McBride allegedly said “Hi” to the cousin and began speaking with her over speakerphone before ending the call.
Court documents state McBride then allegedly told the victim he needed her to give him $800 because he had recently been evicted. When the victim reportedly thought he was joking and replied, “I can give you 22 cents,” investigators allege McBride pulled a black revolver handgun from the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt, grabbed the victim’s right wrist, pointed the firearm at her, and threatened to shoot her if she did not hand over the money.
According to the affidavit, the victim told McBride she did not have money but could contact her cousin to see if she would bring some. Investigators said McBride instructed her to call the cousin. When the victim allegedly told her cousin over the phone that McBride was robbing her, McBride reportedly disconnected the call.
Court documents state the victim then told McBride they could drive somewhere and use his vehicle because she feared she would be shot. Investigators allege McBride grabbed the victim’s wrist again, dragged her across the center console, and pulled her out through the passenger-side door of the vehicle.
The victim reportedly told police she did not fight back because McBride was armed with a handgun. According to court documents, McBride then forced the victim toward the passenger side of his Jeep while continuing to hold onto her wrist.
Investigators said the victim yelled that she heard a police vehicle approaching, causing McBride to release her wrist. The victim then allegedly ran back to her car and drove away from the scene.
According to court documents, the victim later positively identified McBride in a photo lineup as the person responsible for the incident.
Police also reviewed surveillance footage from the Citgo gas station. Investigators said the footage allegedly showed McBride speaking with the victim inside the vehicle before pulling out a handgun and pointing it at her. Authorities said the video then showed McBride pulling the victim over the center console and out of the passenger-side door before forcing her toward the passenger side of his Jeep.
Court documents state audio from the surveillance system captured the victim yelling moments before she escaped, ran back to her car, and drove away.
