A Rensselaer man was killed Saturday afternoon after a crash involving a motorcycle and passenger vehicle at the intersection of State Road 14 and County Road 1100 West, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:41 p.m. on May 23 after a 9-1-1 caller reported locating a damaged passenger car and motorcycle in the area. The caller initially advised that no individuals could be located near the crash scene, but moments later called back after discovering an unresponsive man with significant injuries in a wooded area on the southeast corner of the intersection.

When deputies arrived around 4:49 p.m., they identified the motorcyclist as 63-year-old Randy Sizemore of Rensselaer. Sizemore was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators said the driver of the other vehicle, a black 2015 Hyundai Elantra, had fled the area on foot with another individual. Deputies later located the pair approximately one-half mile south of the crash scene.

The driver was identified as 21-year-old Esly Isai Fuentes Sanabria of Rensselaer. Authorities said Fuentes Sanabria admitted to being the driver of the Hyundai at the time of the collision and was taken into custody.

According to the preliminary investigation, Sizemore had been traveling eastbound on State Road 14 on a blue 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Investigators allege Fuentes Sanabria was traveling southbound on County Road 1100 West when he disregarded a clearly visible stop sign and entered the intersection, colliding with the motorcycle.

Officials stated there were no visual obstructions that would have prevented the driver from seeing either the stop sign or oncoming traffic.

Fuentes Sanabria was arrested at the scene and is currently being held without bond while formal charges are pending.

The sheriff’s department also stated that during the early morning hours of May 24, Fuentes Sanabria was interviewed by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division, which later placed an immigration detainer on him.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police Accident Reconstruction Team continue to investigate the crash. Assisting agencies included the Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department, Jasper EMS, and the Jasper County Coroner’s Office.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
