Joshua A. Salinas, 28, of Park Forest, Illinois, is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police alleged a Walgreens theft led to a vehicle pursuit and the discovery of cocaine and marijuana.
According to court documents, Hebron Police were dispatched to Walgreens in the 300 block of North Main Street at approximately 8:49 p.m. on June 1 after the store manager reported that three Hispanic males had entered the store and stolen makeup and alcohol.
Investigators said the suspects left in a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee with Illinois license plates and a malfunctioning taillight. An officer located a vehicle matching the description traveling on U.S. 231 and attempted a traffic stop.
Court documents allege the vehicle failed to stop, resulting in a pursuit. Police said the vehicle stopped twice before continuing to flee. The pursuit continued onto Interstate 65 before officers ultimately brought the vehicle to a stop using a PIT maneuver.
Investigators said all three occupants fled from the vehicle on foot following the stop.
According to court documents, officers located a white powdery substance on the ground near the vehicle after all three occupants fled. The substance field-tested positive for cocaine. Police also reported locating marijuana in the center console area of the vehicle.
Court documents further allege the stolen merchandise consisted of makeup and alcohol with an approximate retail value of $4,133.87.
